duties

Communication networks are crucial to human society. The most remarkable network - the Internet - offers a host of services to its users and it is clear that it will be more thorough in the near future. However, the heterogeneous set of requirements posed by emerging services poses a major challenge for the Internet community for two main reasons: (i) Internet networks have been extremely difficult to adapt to the new user cases for decades; and (ii) Internet connectivity means the forwarding of multi-network packages owned by completely independent organizations with potentially contrasting goals. The goal of this PhD student appointment is to explore the latest network paradigms and to build highly innovative programmable networks that better fit today's emerging demands on the internet. This task involves developing inter- and intra-domain solutions that match the needs of the various network organizations, network providers, Internet application services, and Cloud data centers, and beyond. Examples include utilizing emerging network programming abilities (such as SDN, P4) and overload systems to improve performance, security, robustness, and reliability of today's Internet-wide connection.
