duties

 

The PhD student's research will be conducted in the subject area of Robot Supported Language Learning, which aims at developing and evaluating methods with which a human-like robot can conduct various conversational exercises with students who learn Swedish as a second language. Doctoral student work involves defining the robot teacher's actions by rules and / or machine learning; to plan and implement user studies with the robot teacher; to analyze the interaction in user studies; as well as publishing research results in international journals and conferences. Teaching courses in computer science and speech technology will be included in 20% of the working hours.

 

qualifications

 

Applicants must hold a master's degree, or equivalent university degree in at least 4 years of which at least one year of advanced-level studies, within an area of relevance to the tasks. This includes, but is not limited to, computer science and computer engineering, information and communication technology, machine learning, and cognition and behavioral science.

 

Applicants should be strongly motivated for research studies, capable of independent work and critical analysis, as well as having good cooperation and communication skills. Very good knowledge of English in speech and writing is a prerequisite for being able to participate in international collaborations and to publish and present research results in international conferences and journals. Applicants should have good knowledge in programming, statistics and machine learning.

 

Experience in dialogue systems, speech technology, language learning systems, language teaching, user studies and experimental design are considered to be the merit. Applicants must not be Swedish speaking, but basic knowledge in Swedish is highly credible, as language learning training, and thus the material to be built and analyzed, is in Swedish.

  5. Representative Publications / Technical Reports: Up to two (2) documents of up to twelve (12) pages each. For longer documents (eg thesis work), attach a web link to the full text.
